Effects of COVID-19 on CICASP Entrance Examinations

April 10th 2020
Announcements

*Update (2020-9-17): CICASP exams open for all applicants / all Fall 2020 exams online

CICASP will be conducting all of its entrance examinations online. Keeping to the dates listed in the application guidelines, exams will be held the first week of November (2nd through 6th) with two additional days if necessary (9th and 10th). Details regarding the exam will be provided to each applicant well in advance of their examination. However, expect all examinations that were previously in written format (General Biology and Specialty Exams) to be conducted orally instead.

*Update (2020-7-8): CICASP exams likely reopening for Master's applicants in fall 2020

Though the details are currently not finalized, CICASP is expecting to conduct its entrance examinations for both doctoral and master's level applicants in fall 2020, following the nirmal schedule (application deadline October 1, testing in early November). Please stay updated on this site and by communication with the CICASP office if you are interested in applying. Our goal will be to allow for examinations to take place in a safe manner to reduce any risks associated with the pandemic.

*UPDATE (2020-4-10): CICASP exams cancelled for master course applicants

Given that the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly constrained international mobility, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, CICASP has reluctantly decided to cancel all examinations for the International Course in Primatology and Wildlife Research at the master's level in June 2020. Therefore, we are no longer accepting applications for this examination. As a result, your pre-application will now be declined.

Applications will continue to be accepted for the doctoral course during April 2020, for an examination via online video conferencing in early June.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. We encourage you to apply during the next application period later this year. Applications will be accepted between September 1 and October 1, with an examination date in early November (to be announced). We look forward to receiving your applications later this year for enrollment in April 2021.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at cicasp_exam [at] ml [dot] kyoto-u [dot] ac [dot] jp.

*Original Announcement (2020-3-23): If you plan to apply, get in touch with us immediately

The COVID-19 pandemic has been disrupting global operations since it's emergence in January 2020. Like all educational institutions, CICASP has been monitoring the situation closely and is trying to remain as flexible as possible to accommodate all requests and concerns. This announcement concerns applications to the international course for the October intake of 2020, i.e. applications to be submitted in between April 1 and 30, 2020, and the entrance examinations that follow in June 2020.

If you are planning to submit an application in April 2020 and thus take the examination in June 2020, please contact CICASP immediately for information regarding the application process. As stated in our guidelines, applicants to the doctoral course can take the entrance examination - scheduled on a date between June 1 - 9, 2020 - via Skype. However, applicant's to the master's course must take the examination in person at the Primate Research Institute as it entails a written component.

We are currently in the process of finding solutions amidst worldwide travel restrictions, so please contact us for the latest information.
